Sayin’.

This is a minimalist typographic map of Chicago’s L system.

I have a birthday coming up.

I am merely saying.

for taking time to celebrate life and fridays:

    Between going and coming…

    Between going and staying
    the day wavers,
in love with its own transparency.
The circular afternoon is now a bay
where the world in stillness rocks.

All is visible and all elusive,
all is near and can’t be touched.

    Paper, book, pencil, glass,
rest in the shade of their names.

Time throbbing in my temples repeats
the same unchanging syllable of blood.

The light turns the indifferent wall
into a ghostly theater of reflections.

I find myself in the middle of an eye,
watching myself in its blank stare.

    The moment scatters. Motionless,
I stay and go: I am a pause.

    • I’m going to put this in the Open Thread too…. Too beautiful to stay in this relatively lonely place!

it’s for you dear ee so by all means put it to whatever use makes you happy

  2. Uh, while there is a train from Seattle to Chicago, I’m afraid I can’t afford the 16 days it would take to travel.

Maybe you could post your Amazon wish list.

    • Please note the number of connections between Seattle and points east.

      THERE ARE NO POINTS.

      I’ve made my point.

      • Oh my God, this is exactly what you were talking about once, about having to go to the doctor or dentist, right? Wowie zowie.

It’s a good thing no one lives east of the public transportation’s boundaries.

        • Exactly. If I miss my morning bus (there is ONE busline), which leaves at 7:14, THERE ARE NO MORE BUSSES.

I still can’t make it to your birthday celebration. But I will do you a favor: I will light 53 candles on a cake out here, and blow them out, wishing you a happy birthday.

    • Within seconds, almost, of posting this, here’s what my sister wrote me:

You could just send me these messages directly, you know. You don’t have to involve the whole blogosphere! What if you get 6 of them? Wallpaper, I suppose. Regifting, always an option. love! L

  3. Wondering if Emily is jonesing for an all day subway pass for her birthday? 😉
